Built in the 1930′s, Beaver’s Bend Park is truly one of Oklahoma’s finest. It is a haven set in a pristine natural setting with towering mountains overlooking the clear waters of the Mountain fork River that boasts Oklahoma’s only year-round trout fishery. Hiking trails and streams abound throughout the park to let nature enthusiasts explore on foot but if your more inclined to drive, the roads strategically wind through the park for some great views.
There is no charge to enter the Oklahoma state park and something else that is free is you will see lots of wildlife roaming the park and there is also a Nature Center where wounded and injured wildlife are nurtured back to health. Frank Griffith, Park Naturalist presides over the animals. He generously shares his knowledge of the park, and can direct you to the best hiking trails. Be sure to ask about the best night time hiking you’ll ever do! Listen to the sounds of the forest at night. Children’s nature crafts and programs are conducted routinely.
The Beavers Bend Restaurant features all-you-can-eat fried catfish on Friday nights. They serve hamburgers and grilled trout also. Be sure to ask for back deck seating, that overlooks the flowing Mountain Fork River below.
The Beavers Bend Paddle Boats, putt-putt golf, canoes and swim beach are popular throughout the summer.
Campsites and RV hookups are available by calling the park office at 580-494-6300.
The Forest Heritage Center features the history of the forest, wood turners exhibit, and hosts the annual summer Owa-Chito art show and photography contest. They also host the Fall Festival with handmade soaps, crafts, petting zoo and more.
