Just got back last week from the best slalom skiing instruction I have ever had. The instructors really know what they are doing and they make it fun for the adults as well as kids. There was all ages represented from beginner to advanced. It was also fun to see the small kids getting out there and learning. I am planning on taking my five year old next year. If you are even slightly interested in learning how to ski or wakeboard or need to polish up on your skills, you will not be disappointed. They will take the fear out of it and make it a day of fun. WHAT TO EXPECT –
Classes will begin each day at 8 a.m. and will continue through 4 p.m.  You will have casting instruction, learn to tie necessary knots, basic entomology and stream strategy, fly presentation and on-the-river instruction.  Lunch will be included each day as well.

COST –
The cost of this two-day course is $300 per person.  Don’t miss this opportunity to take advantage of this class.  You will learn more in two days than you will in a year of self-teaching.

EQUIPMENT –
If you already own your equipment, you should bring them.  But if you don’t, we will be happy to provide them at no additional charge.

This is the 1st year for our new festival and we are extremely excited.  Our featured artist is world renown artist Harold Stevenson who is originally from Idabel, Oklahoma…. Only 15 miles away from Hochatown.  His works are featured in the Guggenheim Museum as well as in several art museums around the world.  His art will be displayed at the Forest Heritage Center in Beavers Bend State Park.  And of course on Saturday, May 22nd we will have our all day music/art/theater festival down in the park.  It’s free, free, free so come one, come all.  Food vendors will be available should you get hungry.  We have an incredible lineup of talent all throughout the day and there will be something to entertain everyone.  KKBI’s one and only Jay Lindly will be our emcee throughout the day.  And the evening promises to be the best of bands from Haworth, Idabel and even as far as Oklahoma City’s own Kanaga.  Be there and be able to claim you attended the first ever Music MAYnia & More….. kinda like saying you went to Woodstock!  The park is about 5 miles north of Broken Bow off of Hwy 259 in Beavers Bend State park.  Any questions call me, Shara, at 580.306.0603.  Hope to see ya’ll there!!!!!

The Bass have been staging for the spawn and it is fast approaching and the action on the lake is great. This is the first year in several that the weather has actually cooperated and the lake levels are normal giving us a great fishing season. Here is a nice largemouth and some crappie I caught yesterday afternoon. There was  not a cloud in the sky and the water is crystal clear so I was a bit surprised when I felt that much pull after setting the hook. Got him on a light action rod with 6 lb test. It was quite the fight and I’m ready for the next one. We have some awesome guides in the area so give us a call or look at our activities page for more info.

The 6″ snowfall that we were unexpectedly blanketed with in February made for some awesome scenery. I decided to get some pics while it was snowing and climbed the cedar bluff trail overlooking the Mountain Fork River. This is a popular hiking trail when it is warmer but there was no one around this time and the solitude along with a torrent of big flakes drifting down made for a truly unique experience. People tend to think of  Colorado and the Midwest for a nostalgic place to stay and get snowed in and maybe traversing the wilderness but that may be as far as some get. Being only three hours from Dallas and close to several other metro areas, our cabins in Broken Bow are a great, close alternative to a full blown vacation in the Rockies and even if for a day or two, one can have one of the best outdoor experiences right in your own back yard. There are still plenty of things to do at Beaver’s Bend this time of year and many people don’t know about this area.   Once you’ve been you will definitely want to come back!

I’m on my way to go play at Abendigos Restaurant tonight.  I get to play my guitar and sing and share a musical experience with the crowd.  I have been around the world and must say this is one of THE best restaurants I’ve eaten at.  It’s a BYOB, except for the fact that they sell beer & wine coolers.  Excellent ambiance as well.  The patio is where all the good times roll in the spring/summer/fall months.  And Hickory Hill Cabins are located right across Hwy 259 (the main highway thru Hochatown, USA).  Convenient if you’ve had too much wine, etc. Come see us soon and experience all this fun!

Have seen LOTS of deer lately in Beaver’s Bend Park and the surrounding area. It is not unusual to see them all year round but they have been out in droves lately and don’t really pay attention to people. How do they know deer season is over? I just happened to have the camera with me this time so here is some footage of some crossing the Mountain Fork River. This is the second time we have seen several deer crossing the river.
